开云体育 recently inducted 27 new students into the Alpha Mu Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.
Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in the world with more than 2 million members and 1,250 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany, British Virgin Islands, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, United Arab Emirates, Peru, and the Republic of Palau. Phi Theta Kappa offers more than $87 Million in Scholarships to its members.鈥
To become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, students must achieve a 3.5 GPA after at least 12 hours of coursework and must maintain a 3.0 GPA for their time at the community college; therefore, membership is a special honor afforded to a small group of outstanding students.
The Alpha Mu Chi chapter was initiated at 开云体育 in 1986 to provide students with the opportunities available through Phi Theta Kappa. Members are recognized with the Golden Key Membership Pin, membership certificate and identification card, notation of membership on their diploma and transcripts and the privilege of wearing regalia at graduation.鈥營n 2014 Alpha Mu Chi has been recognized as a Top Chapter in the Texas Region and ranked as one of the Top 100 Chapters internationally.
