Livestock help with fall maintenance on ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý small farm

By: Rene? McCracken, ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Director of Agriculture

Sorghum, pumpkins and peas....oh my! Fall is not just a perfect time of year for me, but our goats at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý are enjoying the harvest as well. This is just one of the sustainable practices we love demonstrating at our ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Small Farm.† Working with nature and incorporating livestock into the garden is not only sustainable, but we cut out most of our labor and fuel/equipment costs.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý wins national award for efforts in sustainability

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý recently learned that it was one of only nine community colleges nationwide to win†recognition†for its innovative agriculture programs by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).

As a recipient of the 2016 Green Genome Awards, ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý was specifically honored for Program Design and Delivery in Sustainable Agriculture. The award comes with a prize of $10,000, which will be used to further sustainable agriculture efforts at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý.

"I am excited that our work over the past several years is getting national recognition.
