Brian Ramirez

Because of his combination of academic excellence, leadership, and public service, Brian Ramirez of Mount Pleasant has become the second winner of the James and Elizabeth Whatley Honors Endowed Scholarship.  This $2,500 scholarship, to be applied to the coming academic year at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý, and available for distinguished ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý honors sophomores in the years to come, is the result of a $50,000 gift given to Honors Northeast, the college’s honors program, when it started in 2007.  Elizabeth Whatley (1927-2016) at that time gave a record-breaking 1.7 million dollars, one of the largest known gifts to a rural community college.  She and her husband, James, gave over 2.6 million dollars to ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý between the years, 1985 and 2016.

Davin Whatley, a student at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý in Texas, has been named the 2021 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý celebrated August 2021 commencement on Friday, Aug. 13. The ceremony was held at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Graduates received a total of 76 degrees and 53 certificates of competency. The event was streamed live on YouTube and Facebook. It allows full-time Rv’ers to exchange work for rent. Retirees and disabled workers can share their considerable experience and talents to help ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý on a wide variety of projects, including landscaping, painting, farming, electrical, plumbing, and computer support.
