Livestock help with fall maintenance on ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý small farm

Sorghum, pumpkins and peas....oh my! Fall is not just a perfect time of year for me, but our goats at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý are enjoying the harvest as well. This is just one of the sustainable practices we love demonstrating at our ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Small Farm.† Working with nature and incorporating livestock into the garden is not only sustainable, but we cut out most of our labor and fuel/equipment costs.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Art hosts quilting exhibit

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Art Department is hosting A Passion for Piecing, a quilt exhibit featuring the work of local quilters, through November 29 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

"Quilting is a fascinating art form that marries creativity with tradition and practicality. We are excited to showcase the wonderful talent of some of our best local quilters,? Debbie Strong, ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Instructor of Art, said.

An artists? reception is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Whatley foyer.

Emmalea Shaw wins STAR Scholarship

Emmalea Shaw, a ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý sophomore from Fruitvale, was one of six recipients of the Dr. Mary Hood STAR Scholarship.† The scholarship honors returning community college students in the Texas region who show outstanding promise as leaders and as scholars.†The recipients were announced at the recent Texas Honors Institute held at Stephen F. Austin State University and recognized onstage. Shaw is a Presidential Scholar in Honors Northeast and has won numerous state and regional awards.

November 3 Construction Update

The latest on the construction project

? The entrance to UHS next to the A&M-Texarkana office will be closed the rest of this week while they pour a new sidewalk from the parking lot.

? Roof work has begun on the IT building. Materials for this project are being stored in the West Housing parking lot behind the Whatley Center. Please use caution in that area

during this phase of the project.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý and A&M-Texarkana reaffirm BSN agreement

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý and Texas A&M University-Texarkana officials recently renewed an agreement that affirms the transferability of courses from the Associate Degree in Nursing program at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at A&M-Texarkana.

The articulation agreement enables ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý students who successfully complete the courses outlined in the plan to transfer to A&M-Texarkana in a seamless transition without loss of semester credit hours towards the completion of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Sondra Fowler appointed to ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Board of Trustees

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Board of Trustees appointed a new member Tuesday night. Sondra Fowler of Daingerfield was tapped to replace John Bryan, who resigned from the board in September.

Fowler has 30 years of experience in communications with five major multinational corporations. She retired from Conoco in 2002 as head of global external communications at the time of the company's merger with Phillips. Fowler moved to Northeast Texas in 2003, where she served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Pilgrim's Pride Corporation.
