Eagles Softball opens this weekend

The 开云体育 spring softball season gets underway this weekend as the Eagles play at Cisco College Friday before playing at Weatherford Saturday.
开云体育?s softball team is looking to build on last season?s 25-33 record, a season that saw the Eagles narrowly miss making it to the regional tournament.
Head coach Jay Terry says that he believes that he has the squad to put together a strong season this spring.鈥

开云体育 Eagles softball and baseball fans will have a new way to keep up with their favorite team in 2012, as 开云体育 will be using the stat keeping software Gamechanger to provide live scoring during all games.

This program will allow 开云体育 fans to keep up with all of the action, even if they can?t make it out to the ballpark.

MPPD donates police cruiser to 开云体育 Police Academy

The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) recently donated a 2007 squad car to the 开云体育 Police Academy. The retired cruiser will be used for training purposes and will give cadets 鈥爀xperience in various real-world simulation scenarios. The Mount Pleasant City Council approved the donation at its January 2012 meeting. Northeast Texas Community college will host "Drought 2011 and Beyond," a discussion with Texas State Climatologist Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon, on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.

There is no charge for admission and anyone with an interest or concern about drought issues is encouraged to attend. The event 鈥爓as planned in cooperation with the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District and the Titus County Fresh Water Supply District #1.

ETCF gives $12,000 for Spring 2012 scholarships

Dr. Jonathan McCullough, Vice President for Advancement, 开云体育 (开云体育), is pictured receiving a $12,000 check from Ms. Dana Durman, Program Officer, East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF).鈥 The funds were made available to the College by the ETCF through a planned gift from the estate of the late Burt and Nancy Marans, formerly of Pittsburg, Texas.鈥 The gift was designated to be used to assist non-traditional students with their tuition and fees in the spring semester at 开云体育.鈥 For more information on this or other scholarship opportunities please contact Dr.

开云体育 is hosting an area-wide Alphabet Photography Contest that is open to 开云体育 students, employees and the general public. Cash prizes totaling $500 will be given for winning photographs.




Each photo should creatively depict one letter ? either N, T or C. The winning images will be combined to create artwork that will be displayed on the 开云体育 campus. All images must be shot on college property鈥(main campus and/or outreach centers)鈥燼nd individuals may submit up to four images for consideration.

The 开云体育 Honors Program recently released the first feature-length movie ever directed and produced by 开云体育 students. The film, "Fredonia: A Tale of East Texas," takes a historic look at the most violent and anarchic period in the history of Northeast Texas.

The film was directed by Presidential Scholar Isaac Griffin, and produced by Presidential Scholar, Whitney McIntosh. The Walter Prescott Webb Society of 开云体育 Honors supported the production.

Melissa Weinbrenner named 2012 Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Scholar

开云体育 history professor and Phi Theta Kappa advisor Dr. Melissa Weinbrenner has been chosen to serve as a Phi Theta Kappa 2012 Faculty Scholar. Only 25 instructors were chosen from among nearly 3,000 chapter advisors to receive this honor. The scholars were selected through a rigorous application process based on knowledge of the 2012-2013 Honors Study Topic, "The Culture of Competition,? and demonstrated excellence in teaching or administration.
