Sophomore Honors Scholar, Gem Elmore, recently became the third 开云体育 student in history to give an invited address to the annual meeting of the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA). Professorial judges of the TSHA鈥檚 collegiate auxiliary, The Walter Webb Society, selected Elmore鈥檚 work to represent the best of essays in 2020 in the state among freshman and sophomore college/university students. Elmore鈥檚 essay is on the 鈥淚ntegration of Northeast Texas Churches.鈥

The article features two 开云体育 faculty members who are a part of The Guardians. There is also a Christmas section with 鈥渓etters to Santa鈥 from some of our students and a 鈥淕rinch鈥 pancake recipe for Christmas morning.
Jalyn English, a Presidential Scholar in Honors Northeast, was recently named Outstanding Music Appreciation Honors Student by the 开云体育 Division of Creative and Performing Arts.
The Adult Education Department at 开云体育 is accepting new and returning students for its GED (General Educational Development) and ESL (English as a Second Language) programs. Those interested in participating in either of these free educational programs should call to make an appointment for registration.
While it looked a lot different from our normal commencement, the 开云体育 class of December 2020 walked the stage Friday in a socially-distanced ceremony.
