Christi Denney honors memory of sister, Nita DeWoody, with ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý scholarship

Nothing prepared Christi Denney for the loss of her beloved sister, Nita DeWoody, in October 2016. However, In the midst of her grief, Denney became determined to do something good to carry on her sister?s memory. With that goal in mind, she organized a charity 5K race that was held in October 2017 in Pittsburg.

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Agriculture Department will host a Muscadine Workshop Friday, Feb. 16 at the ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Ag Complex. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon under the instruction of Master Gardener Rhonda Lesher.

Lesher is a Master Gardener with the Cypress Basin Master Gardeners, where she has partnered with Texas A&M University in the Earth Kind trials for Mucadines and other grape vines for Northeast Texas.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Speech and Debate Club to host open candidate forum

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Speech and Debate Club will host an open candidate forum for the Democratic candidates for United States House of Representatives District 4 on Monday, Feb. 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The forum will include Catherine Krantz from Rains County and Lander Bethel from Sherman. Krantz and Bethel are the only Democrats facing off in the March 6 Democratic Primary.

The Mount Pleasant Fine Arts Club recently gave $500 to the ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Foundation. The funds will be used to provide a scholarship for a fine arts student at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý. The group has been contributing to scholarships for more than 25 years. Whatley Center hosts art exhibit by "Pulpwood Queen" Kathy L. Murphy

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý†Art†Department will host its first†exhibit†of 2018†February 5-28 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing†Arts. The show, Bookland, will feature ceramics and alcohol ink panels†by artist and author, Kathy L. Murphy. A reception with the†artist will be held Tuesday, February 13 at 12:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.

Murphy's artwork is created hoping the viewer will be transformed and transported to other worlds sparked by their own experiences and imagination.
