¿ªÔÆÌåÓý plans GED, ESL registration

Do you know someone who is interested in learning English or completing their GED (General Education Development)? The Adult Education Program at ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý offers free GED and ESL (English as a Second Language) classes at a variety of convenient locations. Registration for all locations will be held at the Community Resource Center (formerly MPISD Administration Building) at 105 N. Riddle Street on the following dates: August 9, 11, 15 and 17.

Both daytime and evening classes are available.

Honors Northeast seeks entries for poetry contest

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý and Honors Northeast†recently†announced a call for original poems to enter the ninth†annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest. The judges will be looking for poems that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas. Adult winners will take home $200 for first place and $50 for second place. Full-time student winners will receive $400 for first place, $300 for second, $200 for third, and $100 for fourth. All ages are welcome to enter the contest. Any genre of poem, and at any length, can compete.

Perryman gives to ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Work Scholarship Program

The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Foundation recently received a $1,500 gift from Richard Perryman to support the ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Work Scholarship Program. Perryman (right) is pictured presenting the gift to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Vice President for Advancement. The ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý Work Scholarship Program gives students the opportunity to work during the summer to earn funds to pay for college for the upcoming year. The goal of the program is to foster a strong work ethic while allowing students to avoid student debt.
