开云体育 Rodeo kicks off spring season

The 开云体育 (开云体育) Rodeo Team competed in the first rodeo of the spring season February 7 and 8 at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.鈥燭he Rodeo Team had a very successful showing, with four students placing in individual events allowing the team get closer to its goal of sending representatives to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in June.鈥犫

Kolby Miller placed second in the long go during the team roping event, and placed 10th overall with Kyler Bramhall coming

February 11 weather closure

All 开云体育 locations will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11 due to winter weather. Food services WILL 鈥燽e available to students who live on campus. The Mt. Pleasant Daily Tribune political forum that was scheduled for tonight is also cancelled.

开云体育 will continue to monitor the weather and will announce any further closures by 6 a.m. tomorrow if necessary.

The 开云体育 Eagles baseball and softball games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed.

Eagles Softball drops two to LSU Eunice

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燭he 开云体育 (开云体育) Eagles softball team took a鈥燿ouble loss against the Louisiana State University Eunice Bengals during鈥燬aturday's home games.鈥燭he loss is the first for the Eagles this season after having won both of鈥爐heir season opening games last week.

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燭he Bengals took a commanding lead early in the first game, scoring four鈥爑nanswered runs before the end of the second inning.鈥燘rianna Williams scored the first run of the day for the Eagles, but is鈥爓as not enough as the Bengals scored another three runs to win the first鈥爂ame 7-1.

Eagles Baseball picks up three wins against Pratt

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燭he 开云体育 (开云体育) Eagles baseball team secured鈥爐heir first win of the season on Saturday against the Pratt Community鈥燙ollege Beavers. The Eagles and the Beavers squared off for two鈥燿oubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday and the Eagles won three of the four鈥爂ames played this weekend.


鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥牽铺逵 took an early lead in the second inning of the first game and went on鈥爐o pick up a shutout, 3-0, win over the Beavers.

开云体育 celebrated the service of Bill Priefert, a long-time member of the 开云体育 board of Trustees, with a retirement reception on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Priefert, of Mount Pleasant, recently retired from the board after 11 years of service. Stone sculptures on display at Whatley Center


The 开云体育 art department is currently hosting an art exhibit by stone sculptor Stacy Deslatte of Longview. The display, which runs through March 7, is featured in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the 开云体育 campus. The exhibit is open free to the public during regular business hours. 开云体育 Phi Theta Kappa wins national USA Today competition

鈥 鈥 鈥 鈥燗lpha Mu Chi, 开云体育?s chapter of Phi Theta鈥燢appa, earned national acclaim as one of four chapters to win the 2013 Honors Case鈥燬tudy Challenge competition sponsored by USA Today. Tied to the larger Phi鈥燭heta Kappa Honors in Action research project, the Case Study Challenge鈥燾ompetition gives chapter members an opportunity to focus their attention on a鈥爏pecific area of study.

Charles Shafer, in his memoir of life in Northeast Texas, noted that when he was young, Congressman Wright Patman seemed to speak to local residents with the voice of God?and he ?appeared about as old.?鈥 Patman represented Northeast Texas in Washington D.C. from 1929 to 1976, and is commemorated today by the Bowie and Cass County lake that bears his name.

But what did his life and tenure say about our region?鈥 What kind of man was he? This is a question that the 开云体育 Webb Society has sought to answer in a new film about Wright Patman's life.
