Pickleball craze comes to 开云体育

The 开云体育 Continuing Education department recently offered its very first pickleball course starting in late march. The course, taught by Marc Levesque, is a great way to stay fit, have fun and make new friends. 

"Thank you 开云体育 continuing education for allowing me to teach and instruct the fastest growing sport in America 鈥淧ickleball鈥  This amazing sport combines tennis, badminton and ping pong and is played with a paddle and heavier type whiffle ball," Levesque said.

Student art show scheduled from April 6th to May 2nd

The 开云体育 Art Department will hold its annual student art show from Thursday, April 6th through Tuesday, May 2nd in the foyer gallery of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit will feature student artworks in design, drawing, ceramics, photography, and digital media. A reception will be held Wednesday, April 12th in the Whatley Center foyer at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come, meet our amazing students, and enjoy the exhibit.

The Eagle staff wins 23 awards at TIPA

The Eagle newspaper staff attended the 2023 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention last week and returned home with a number of awards! The staff won a total of 23 awards including a 1st place in Best of Show and 2nd place in overall excellence. Co-Editor-in-Chief Skylar Fondren also took 2nd place in the feature photography on-site contest and was also awarded the $2,000 Fred Stewart Community College Journalism Scholarship.

Yard sale planned to support study-abroad course

The 开云体育 Sociology Travel Club will host a yard sale on Saturday, April 1st from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1303 Larkin Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the cost of the first 开云体育 study-abroad course coming up this May.

Anyone who has gently used unwanted items they wish to donate for the sale can drop them by the CARE Center in IA 105 or e-mail care@ntcc.edu to arrange for a pickup by Thursday, March 30th.

Carroll Shelby Foundation gives $25k for automotive scholarships

The 开云体育 Foundation recently received a $25,000 gift from the Carroll Shelby Foundation. Aaron Shelby (left), is pictured presenting the check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, 开云体育 Executive Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in 开云体育鈥檚 Carroll Shelby Automotive Program.

TAFE students compete at state competition

开云体育 Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) students (above from left): Monse Rivero, Neida P茅rez and Anah铆 Valente represented 开云体育 at the state TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) competition in Austin. Neida and Anahi (pictured below) qualified to compete at the National competition in Orlando June 29-July 2. We wish them luck as they represent their college this summer!

Baseball spring break action

开云体育 Baseball as busy during spring break with six games over eight days. 开云体育 opened spring break up with a Saturday conference two game set with Bossier Parrish Community College, losing 7-1 and 8-0.

开云体育 would bounce back on Monday, March 13th when they traveled to Centenary College and picked up a 12-4 road non-conference win.
